The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in a televised session at 11:13 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Josée Beaudin, Dona Cadman, Ron Cannan, Raymonde Folco, Ed Komarnicki, Yves Lessard, Ben Lobb, Tony Martin, Hon. Maria Minna, Michael John Savage and Maurice Vellacott.

 

Acting Members present: Glen Douglas Pearson for Raymonde Folco.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Chantal Collin, Analyst; Hilary Jensen, Analyst; Kevin Kerr, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Active Living Alliance for Canadians with a Disability: Jane Arkell, Executive Director; Jason Dunkerley, Coordinator, All Abilities Welcome. DisAbled Women's Network of Canada: Bonnie L. Brayton, National Executive Director. Canadian Paraplegic Association: Bruce Drewett, President; Courtney Keenan, Vice-President. Independent Living Canada: Rick Goodfellow, National Chairperson. Canadian Association for Community Living: Anna Macquarrie, Director, Government Relations and Strategic Initiatives. Council of Canadians with Disabilities: Marie White, National Chairperson.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, February 10, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of the federal contribution to reducing poverty in Canada.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:56 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:58 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 1:04 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
