The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:36 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, for the purpose of electing a Chair, pursuant to Standing Order 106(1).

 

Members of the Committee present: Patrick Brown, Colin Carrie, Patricia Davidson, Nicolas Dufour, Kirsty Duncan, Luc Malo, Cathy McLeod, Joyce Murray, Joy Smith, Tim Uppal and Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

 

Acting Members present: Martha Hall Findlay for Hon. Carolyn Bennett.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sonya Norris, Analyst; Karin Phillips, Analyst. House of Commons: Isabelle Dumas, Procedural Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Public Health Agency of Canada: David Butler-Jones, Chief Public Health Officer; Elaine Chatigny, Director General, Communications. Department of Health: Paul Gully, Senior Medical Advisor.

 
The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Chair.
 

On motion of Colin Carrie, it was agreed, — That Joy Smith be elected Chair of the Committee.

 

The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of the Vice-Chairs.

 

On motion of Kirsty Duncan, it was agreed, — That Joyce Murray be elected First Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

On motion of Luc Malo, it was agreed, — That Judy Wasylycia-Leis be elected Second Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

At 3:40 p.m., Joy Smith took the Chair.

 

At 3:44 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:33 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the Committee resume its study on H1N1 preparedness and response.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, August 12, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of H1N1 preparedness and response.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
