The Standing Committee on Health met in a televised session at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Joyce Murray, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Patrick Brown, Patricia Davidson, Nicolas Dufour, Kirsty Duncan, Luc Malo, Cathy McLeod, Joyce Murray, Tim Uppal and Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

Acting Members present: Paul Calandra for Patrick Brown, Peter Goldring for Joy Smith and Alice Wong for Colin Carrie.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sonya Norris, Analyst ; Karin Phillips, Analyst ; Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst.

Appearing: Hon. Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health.

Witnesses: Department of Health: Morris Rosenberg, Deputy Minister; Alfred Tsang, Chief Financial Officer; Anne-Marie Robinson, Assistant Deputy Minister. Public Health Agency of Canada: David Butler-Jones, Chief Public Health Officer; James Libbey, Chief Financial Officer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee resumed consideration of the Main Estimates 2009-2010: Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 under HEALTH referred to the Committee on Thursday, February 26, 2009.

The Minister made an opening statement and, with David Butler-Jones, Morris Rosenberg and Anne-Marie Robinson, answered questions.

Judy Wasylycia-Leis moved, — That the vote on the Main Estimates be postponed till Thursday, May 28, 2009.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division: YEAS: Judy Wasylycia-Leis — 1; NAYS: Carolyn Bennett, Paul Calandra, Patricia Davidson, Nicolas Dufour, Kirsty Duncan, Peter Goldring, Luc Malo, Cathy McLeod, Tim Uppal, Alice Wong — 10.

The question: "Shall votes 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 under HEALTH carry?" was put and was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 10; NAYS: 1.

It was agreed, — That the Chair report Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50, less the amounts voted in Interim Supply, under HEALTH to the House.

At 5:27 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
