The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 9:01 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Robert Carrier, Bob Dechert, Daryl Kramp, Jean-Yves Laforest, Hon. John McCallum, Hon. John McKay, Ted Menzies, Thomas J. Mulcair, Massimo Pacetti, James Rajotte and Mike Wallace.

 

Acting Members present: Kelly Block for Hon. Maxime Bernier and Laurie Hawn for Mike Wallace.

 

Associate Members present: Martha Hall Findlay.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Philippe Bergevin, Analyst; Mark Mahabir, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Bank of Canada: Pierre Duguay, Deputy Governor.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 5, 2009, the Committee resumed its study on Measures to Enhance Credit Availability and the Stability of the Canadian Financial System.
 

Pierre Duguay made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 10:31 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:33 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, following the release of each update on the government’s implementation of the budget, the Finance Committee schedule a meeting to hear from the Office of the Parliamentary Budget Officer on the budget implementation update.

 

It was agreed, — That two meetings be held on the viability of the federally-regulated Pension Plans.

 

At 11:00 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
