CONCLUSION The Committee set out to study the effects and consequences of the EI program on women. We found, that overall, the EI program does benefit women who are in full-time employment. The Committee heard, however, that women’s labour market realities are not accounted for under the current EI program. One of the main reasons women are unable to access benefits is because they predominate in part-time employment. We have made several recommendations aimed at improving access to Employment Insurance benefits for women in Canada. It is our hope that with the implementation of these reforms, women’s income security will be enhanced. |
