The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met by videoconference at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Candice Hoeppner, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Nicole Demers, Luc Desnoyers, Candice Hoeppner, Irene Mathyssen, Cathy McLeod, Hon. Anita Neville, Dave Van Kesteren, Alice Wong and Lise Zarac.

 

Acting Members present: Lois Brown for Sylvie Boucher and Bonnie Crombie for Hon. Hedy Fry.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Cool, Analyst; Andrew Kitching, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Watson Wyatt Worldwide: Terence Yuen, Senior Economist, Canadian Research and Innovation Centre; Martine Sohier, Senior Consulting Actuary, Retirement. As an individual: Jean-Pierre Laporte, Lawyer. Conseil d'intervention pour l'accès des femmes au travail: Ruth Rose-Lizée, President.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, October 1, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of women and pension security.
 

Terence Yuen, Martine Sohier, Jean-Pierre Laporte and Ruth Rose-Lizée, by videoconference from Montreal, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:02 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:04 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Anita Neville moved, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee hold a special joint meeting outside the normal meeting schedule with the Standing Committee of Human Resources and Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities to study the subject matter of Bill C-56, An Act to Amend the Employment Insurance Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts.

Debate arose thereon.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 4.

 

At 5:17 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
