The Standing Committee on International Trade met in camera at 11:09 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Lee Richardson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Hon. Scott Brison, Ron Cannan, Serge Cardin, Claude Guimond, Richard M. Harris, Ed Holder, Lee Richardson and Mario Silva.

 

Acting Members present: Malcolm Allen for Peter Julian, Hon. Wayne Easter for John Cannis and Daniel Petit for Gerald Keddy.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Holden, Analyst; Jennifer Paul, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Sugar Institute: Sandra Marsden, President. Simpson Seeds Inc.: Greg Simpson, President.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $198,856 for the Committee’s travel to Sao Paolo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during Fall 2009 be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $282,256 for the Committee’s travel to Sao Paolo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during Fall 2009 be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee defray the hospitality expenses related to working meals to be held during its travel to Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in the Fall of 2009.

 

At 11:31 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:38 a.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted on Thursday March 12, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of Canada-South America Trade Relations (Canada-Colombia).
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:48 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
