The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in a televised session at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Pablo Rodriguez, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Charlie Angus, Rod Bruinooge, Dean Del Mastro, Ruby Dhalla, Shelly Glover, Nina Grewal, Carole Lavallée, Roger Pomerleau, Pablo Rodriguez and Tim Uppal.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Larry Bagnell for Scott Simms and Sylvie Boucher for Gary Ralph Schellenberger.

 

Associate Members present: Niki Ashton.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Dewing, Analyst; Marion Ménard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: CBC/Radio-Canada: Hubert T. Lacroix, President and Chief Executive Officer.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Ruby Dhalla moved, — That, based on the testimony of Chairman Konrad von Finckenstein of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission on March 25 2009 before the Committee, and the discrepancy revealed in the transcript of the CRTC to the Committee, that Mr. von Finckenstein be recalled before the Committee as soon as possible.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 5; NAYS: 6.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, the Committee commenced the study on the announcement of Radio-Canada's budget plan and resumed the study on the evolution of the television industry in Canada and its impact on local communities.
 

Hubert T. Lacroix made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
