The Special Committee on the Canadian Mission in Afghanistan met at 11:10 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Rick Casson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Jim Abbott, Claude Bachand, Rick Casson, Hon. Denis Coderre, Laurie Daniel Hawn, Greg Kerr, Hon. Bob Rae and Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

 

Acting Members present: Shelly Glover for Dave MacKenzie, Jack Harris for Paul Dewar, Pascal-Pierre Paillé for Paul Crête and Kevin Sorenson for Deepak Obhrai.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Lee, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Yves Brodeur, Assistant Deputy Minister, Afghanistan Task Force. Canadian International Development Agency: Stephen Wallace, Vice-President, Afghanistan Task Force. Rights & Democracy: Rémy M. Beauregard, President; Razmik Panossian, Director, Policy, Programmes and Planning.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, February 10, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of Canada's mission in Afghanistan.
 

Yves Brodeur and Stephen Wallace made statements and answered questions.

 

At 11:59 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:04 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Rémy M. Beauregard made a statement and, with Razmik Panossian, answered questions.

 

At 12:47 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:50 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee meet on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 from 08:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

 

It was agreed, — That the analysts from the Library of Parliament prepare a trip report on the Committee's trip to Washington.

 

It was agreed, — That a Steering Committee be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2009 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

 

At 1:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
