The Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities met at 11:02 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Mervin C. Tweed, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Don H. Bell, Robert Carrier, Ed Fast, Martha Hall Findlay, Brian Jean, Mario Laframboise, Brian Masse, Bev Shipley, Mervin C. Tweed and Jeff Watson.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Gerry Byrne for Hon. Joseph Volpe.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: John Christopher, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Brian Masse moved, — That the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, after the passage in the House of Commons of a motion calling for an airline passenger bill of rights, engage in a study of present legislation and regulation that could possibly be used to protect air travel consumers and report the study to the House of Commons.

Debate arose thereon.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 11; NAYS: 0.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair send a letter to the Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, asking him to provide, by mid-August, a definition of the current rights of air travel consumers.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair send a letter to the Canadian Transportation Agency, informing them about the Committee’s study on the rights of air travel consumers and asking them to provide any ideas they might have on the topic.

 

At 11:44 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
