The Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities met at 11:10 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Mervin Tweed, presiding.


Members of the Committee present: Don H. Bell, Robert Carrier, Ed Fast, Brian Jean, Mario Laframboise, John Maloney, Brian Masse, Bev Shipley, Mervin Tweed, Hon. Joseph Volpe, Jeff Watson and Paul Zed.


Associate Members present: Olivia Chow.


In attendance: Library of Parliament: John Christopher, Analyst. Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities: Maxime Ricard, Committee Clerk.


Appearing: Hon. Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities.


Witnesses: Community Airport Impact Review: Bill Freeman, Director. As individuals: Brian Iler, Lawyer; Adam Vaughan, Councillor. Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, December 4, 2007, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-23, An Act to amend the Canada Marine Act, the Canada Transportation Act, the Pilotage Act and other Acts in consequence.

Adam Vaughan, Bill Freeman and Brian Iler made statements and answered questions.


At 11:57 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:02 p.m., the sitting resumed.


Hon. Lawrence Cannon made a statement and, with the Emile Di Sanza and Ekaterina Ohandjanian, answered questions.


At 1:04 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
