The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met in a televised session at 11:12 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: André Arthur, Hon. Scott Brison, Paule Brunelle, Colin Carrie, Hon. Mark Eyking, Hon. Dan McTeague, Peggy Nash, James Rajotte, Hon. Raymond Simard, Bruce Stanton, Dave Van Kesteren and Robert Vincent.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Geoff Regan for Hon. Dan McTeague.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Eleanor Fast, Analyst; Mark Mahabir, Analyst; Dan Shaw, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Jim Prentice, Minister of Industry.

 

Witnesses: Department of Industry: Paul Boothe, Senior Associate Deputy Minister; Richard Dicerni, Deputy Minister; Pierre Legault, Senior General Counsel and Manager.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motions adopted by the Committee on January 29 and February 26, 2008, the Committee resumed its study of the proposed sale of part of MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. to Alliant Techsystems.
 

The Minister made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 12:30 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:37 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the draft news release on the Study on Canadian Science and Technology be approved and be made public.

 

It was agreed, — That the meetings scheduled for April 1 and April 3, 2008, be devoted to the study of the proposed sale of part of Macdonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. to Alliant Techsystems and that the Canadian Science and Technology study begin the week of April 7, 2008.

 

At 1:03 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
