The Standing Committee on Health met at 11:07 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Lui Temelkovski, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Patrick Brown, Patricia Davidson, Steven John Fletcher, Christiane Gagnon, Susan Kadis, Lui Temelkovski, Hon. Robert Thibault, David Tilson and Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

 

Acting Members present: Réal Ménard for Luc Malo.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sonya Norris, Analyst; Nancy Miller Chenier, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Health: Meena Ballantyne, Assistant Deputy Minister, Health Products and Food Branch; Liz Anne Gillham-Eisen, Unit Manager, Policy and Promotion Division, Health Products and Food Branch. Canadian Standards Association: Suzanne Kiraly, President; Marc Germain, Chair Designate, Technical Committee on Safety of Cells, Tissues, and Organs for Transplantation and Assisted Reproduction. Canadian Council for Donation and Transplantation: Kimberly Young, Chief Executive Officer; Graham Sher, Chief Executive Officer, Canadian Blood Services. University of Toronto: Gary Levy, Director, Multi Organ Transplant Program, University Health Network. The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee would proceed with discussions on items of Committee business in the final part of the meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 6, 2008, following the appearance and questioning of witnesses as part of the study on Post-Market Surveillance.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, January 29, 2008, the Committee proceeded to a briefing on the New Organ Donor Regulations.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 1:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
