The Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics met in camera at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Paul Szabo, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Del Mastro, Sukh Dhaliwal, Russ Hiebert, Hon. Charles Hubbard, Carole Lavallée, Pat Martin, Richard Nadeau, Paul Szabo, David Tilson, Dave Van Kesteren and Mike Wallace.

 

Acting Members present: Mario Silva for Hon. Charles Hubbard and Hon. Robert Thibault for Glen Douglas Pearson.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Erica Pereira, Committee Clerk. Library of Parliament: Kristen Douglas, Analyst; Nancy Holmes, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee resume the study under Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on May 10, 2007, on the Access to Information request for the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade internal report entitled "Afghanistan 2006: Good Governance, Democratic Development and Human Rights".

 

It was agreed, — That the evidence and documentation received by the Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics during the First Session of the 39th Parliament in relation to its study on the Access to Information request for the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade internal report entitled “Afghanistan 2006: Good Governance, Democratic Development and Human Rights be taken into consideration by the Committee in this session.

 

It was agreed, — That the draft written questions presented to the Committee and approved, be sent to Paul Tellier, former Clerk of the Privy Council.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics recommend that the government not wait for the Committee to complete its work and immediately initiate a formal public inquiry into the Mulroney-Schreiber affair and appoint a Commissioner as soon as possible, granting him/her full latitude to define the parameters of his/her inquiry, which shall be as broad as possible.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics proceed to the consideration of the legislative proposal to reform the Access to Information Act as proposed by the former Information Commissioner of Canada, the Hon. John M. Reid, submitted to committee September 29, 2005.

 

At 5:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
