The Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics met in a televised session at 8:58 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Paul Szabo, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Del Mastro, Sukh Dhaliwal, Russ Hiebert, Carole Lavallée, Pat Martin, Paul Szabo, David Tilson, Dave Van Kesteren and Mike Wallace.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Ken Dryden for Glen Douglas Pearson, Serge Ménard for Gérard Asselin, Brian Murphy for Sukh Dhaliwal, Brian Murphy for Hon. Charles Hubbard, Pablo Rodriguez for Hon. Charles Hubbard and Hon. Robert Thibault for Glen Douglas Pearson.

 

Associate Members present: Michel Guimond and Mike Lake.

 

Other Members present: Bill Casey, Hon. Diane Marleau, Hon. John McKay and Lui Temelkovski.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Kristen Douglas, Analyst; Nancy Holmes, Analyst. House of Commons: Julia Lockhart, Committee Clerk. As an individual: Guy Pratte, Counsel to Brian Mulroney.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, November 22, 2007, the Committee resumed its study of the Mulroney Airbus Settlement.
 

The witness made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 9:39 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:52 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

At 11:25 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:43 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

A point of order was raised regarding the procedural admissibility of allowing questions on the contact between the Right Hon. Brian Mulroney P.C. and Hon. Maxime Bernier P.C., M.P..

 

RULING BY THE CHAIR

To allow questions on the contact between the Right Hon. Brian Mulroney P.C. and Hon. Maxime Bernier P.C., M.P.

 

Whereupon, David Tilson appealed the decision of the Chair.

The question: "Shall the decision of the Chair be sustained?" was put and the decision was sustained on the following recorded division: YEAS: Sukh Dhaliwal, Carole Lavallée, Pat Martin, Serge Ménard, Pablo Rodriguez, Robert Thibault — 6; NAYS: Dean Del Mastro, Russ Hiebert, David Tilson, Dave Van Kesteren, Mike Wallace — 5.
