The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in a televised session at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Gary Schellenger, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Jim Abbott, Dave Batters, Hon. Mauril Bélanger, Hon. Michael D. Chong, Ed Fast, Hon. Hedy Fry, Luc Malo, Maria Mourani, Gary Schellenberger, Hon. Andy Scott and Bill Siksay.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Ken Dryden for Francis Scarpaleggia.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marion Ménard, Analyst; Lara Trehearne, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: House of Commons: Bernard Bigras, M.P., Rosemont—La Petite-Patrie. Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission: Konrad W. von Finckenstein, Chair; Martine Vallée, Director, English Pay and Specialty Television and Social Policy; Scott Hutton, Associate Executive Director, Broadcasting.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, October 16, 2007, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-327, An Act to amend the Broadcasting Act (reduction of violence in television broadcasts).
 

Bernard Bigras made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 4:24 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:31 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Konrad W. von Finckenstein made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 5:18 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:19 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Dave Batters, it was agreed, — That the Committee adopt a budget in the amount of $8,650 for its study on Bill C-327, An Act to amend the Broadcasting Act (reduction of violence in television broadcast).

 

At 5:21 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
