The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met in camera at 9:07 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, James Bezan, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Alex Atamanenko, André Bellavance, James Bezan, Ken Boshcoff, Hon. Wayne Easter, Guy Lauzon, Larry Miller, Hon. Carol Skelton, Lloyd St. Amand, Paul Steckle, Brian Storseth and Ève-Mary Thaï Thi Lac.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Principal; Frédéric Forge, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on "Product of Canada" claims.
 

At 9:13 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:14 a.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 

Members made statements on the work of the Committee on its study on “Product of Canada” claims.

 

Ken Boshcoff gave notice of the following motion: —That the Prime Minister recognize and respect the work of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food and ensure that the work of the Committee will not be sub voted and that the recommendations based on input from Canadian Stakeholders will be implemented and that the Prime Minister confirm his willingness to accept the work of the Committee.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on "Product of Canada" claims.
 

At 10:55 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:56 a.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
The Committee commenced the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Alex Atamanenko moved, — That the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food call on officials from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to provide a briefing to the Committee on: (a) the status of the updates to Animal Transport Regulations that are being proposed; (b) when it is expected the regulations will be sent to Justice for a final draft; (c) anticipated timeline for when the final draft of these regulations will be posted to the Canada Gazette.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 

At 10:59 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
