The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, James Bezan, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Alex Atamanenko, James Bezan, Ken Boshcoff, Hon. Wayne Easter, Guy Lauzon, Larry Miller, Hon. Carol Skelton, Lloyd St. Amand, Paul Steckle, Brian Storseth and Ève-Mary Thaï Thi Lac.

 

Acting Members present: Gérard Asselin for André Bellavance.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Principal.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Food Inspection Agency: Paul Mayers, Acting Vice-President, Programs; Debra Bryanton, Executive Director, Food Safety Directorate; Carla Barry, Acting Director, Consumer Protection. Competition Bureau: Richard Taylor, Deputy Commissioner of Competition, Civil Matters Branch; Morgan Currie, Acting Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Competition, Mergers Branch; Larry Bryenton, Acting Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Competition, Fair Business Practices Branch. Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food: Blair Coomber, Director General, International Trade Policy Directorate.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on "Product of Canada" claims.
 

Richard Taylor and Paul Mayers made statements and, with Debra Bryanton, Blair Coomber, Carla Barry and Larry Bryenton, answered questions.

 

At 10:50 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
