The Special Committee on the Canadian Mission in Afghanistan met in a televised session at 6:32 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Pierre Lemieux, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Vivian Barbot, Dawn Black, Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Laurie Hawn, Gerald Keddy, Pierre Lemieux, Deepak Obhrai and Hon. Bob Rae.

 

Acting Members present: Bonnie Brown for Bernard Patry, Hon. Ken Dryden for Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Denis Lebel for Sylvie Boucher, Hon. Maria Minna for Hon. Bryon Wilfert and Kevin Sorenson for Dave MacKenzie.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Cox, Analyst; Robert Dufresne, Analyst; James Lee, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Privy Council Office: David Mulroney, Deputy Minister, Afghanistan Task Force.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of April 8, 2008, the Committee resumed its study of Canada's mission in Afghanistan.
 

David Mulroney made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 7:29 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 7:31 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That David Mulroney appear before the Special Committee on Wednesday, June 11, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in relation to the report of the cabinet committee on Afghanistan which was to be presented to the House June 10, 2008.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to the motions adopted on May 7 and June 4, 2008, the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure reviewed a draft report on June 10 and recommends it for the Special Committee's consideration on Wednesday, June 11, from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m..

 

It was agreed, — That the Special Committee request a briefing from the appropriate department officials, on the Paris Conference for the meeting of Wednesday, June 18, 2008, from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m..

 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

At 8:38 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
