The Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities met at 11:08 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Merv Tweed, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Don H. Bell, Steven Blaney, Robert Carrier, Ed Fast, Hon. Charles Hubbard, Brian Jean, Peter Julian, Mario Laframboise, David J. McGuinty, Hon. Andy Scott, Brian Storseth and Merv Tweed.

 

Acting Members present: Rod Bruinooge for Brian Storseth and Rick Norlock for Steven Blaney.

 

In attendance: Parliamentary Information and Research Service: John Christopher, Analyst; Allison Padova, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Transportation Safety Board of Canada: David Kinsman, Executive Director; Nick Stoss, Acting Director General, Investigation Operations; Wendy A Tadros, A/Chairman.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of safety solutions on all modes of transport, security.
 

Wendy Tadros made an opening statement and, with David Kinsman and Nick Stoss, answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Robert Carrier moved: - That the Committee asks the Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities to ensure that officials of the Transport Department will notify and consult the Committee prior to publication in the Canada Gazette of any regulations to reduce the number of flight attendants on board air carriers.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was, by a show of hands, agreed to: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 4.

 

At 1:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
