The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met at 11:04 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Garry Breitkreuz, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Sue Barnes, Garry Breitkreuz, Gord Brown, Hon. Raymond Chan, Joe Comartin, Dave MacKenzie, Serge Ménard, Maria Mourani and Rick Norlock.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst; Philip Rosen, Principal.

 

Witnesses: Department of Justice Canada: William Bartlett, Senior Counsel, Criminal Law Policy Section. Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Raf Souccar, Assistant Commissioner, Federal and International Operations; Derek R. Ogden, Director General, Drugs and Organized Crime, Federal and International Operations; David Bird, Counsel, RCMP Legal Services.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study on the Review of the Witness Protection Program.
 

Raf Souccar made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 12:49 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:50 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to its future business.
 

It was agreed, — That Paul Hoffert, Michael Geist and Bob H. Sotiriadis be invited to appear in relation to the Committee's study on Counterfeit Goods.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee discuss future business on Tuesday, April 24, 2007.

 

At 1:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
