The Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in camera at 11:05 a.m. this day, in Room 307, West Block, the Chair, Jason Kenney, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Hon. Irwin Cotler, Hon. Jason Kenney, Wayne Marston, Mario Silva, Kevin Sorenson and Caroline St-Hilaire.

 

Acting Members present: Peter Goldring for Wajid Khan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Allison Goody, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to the motion adopted by the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development, May 10, 2006 and the motion adopted by the Subcommittee, October 24, 2006, the Subcommittee resumed its study on Human Rights in China.
 

It was agreed, — That the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade produce a copy of the uncensored, unexpurgated version of the report prepared by Professor Charles Burton, pursuant to the motion adopted by the Subcommittee on March 20, 2007;

That the examination on April 24, 2007, of the said Report take place at an in camera meeting with all the procedural protections normally accorded to in camera meetings, including a ban on the publication of the proceedings of the Subcommittee and on the disclosure of any information contained in the said report which may be protected from disclosure under either the Access to Information Act or the Privacy Act; and

That, after the in camera review of the said report, it be immediately returned to officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.

 

The Subcommittee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

At 1:25 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
