The Subcommittee on Committee Budgets of the Liaison Committee met at 1:09 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Dean Allison, Art Hanger, Guy Lauzon, Rob Merrifield, Yasmin Ratansi, Paul Szabo and Tom Wappel.

 

Other Members present: Leon Benoit, James Bezan and Pauline Picard.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jack Stilborn, Analyst. Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food: Jean-François Lafleur, Clerk of the Committee. Standing Committee on International Trade: Normand Radford, Clerk of the Committee. Standing Joint Committee on Scrutiny of Regulations: Michael MacPherson, Joint Clerk of the Committee. House of Commons: Karen Thriepland, Coordinator, Logistics Services; Chantal Proulx, Liaison Committee and Finance Officer; Louise Lalonde, Finance Officer.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

The Chair made a statement regarding the role of the Liaison Committee.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 107(1), the Subcommittee resumed its study on Budget submissions.
 

At 1:11 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:12 p.m., the Subcommittee resumed sitting in camera.

 

The Chair gave a presentation on the financial status of the global envelope for committee activities.

 

The Chair apprised members that the following budget request has been approved:

  • The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security - a travel budget of $1,025 to travel to Laval, Québec, on May 10, 2007, to visit the “Institut national de la recherche scientifique“, University of Québec.
 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food be granted a travel budget of $27,755 to travel to Washington, DC, from May 14 to 16, 2007, in relation to its study on Canadian Agricultural Policy Framework.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on International Trade be granted a travel budget of $198,427 to travel to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Dubai/Abu Dhabi, UAE; Sanaa, Yemen and Brussels, Belgium, from June 3 to 14, 2007, in relation to its study on Canada’s Trade Policy.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on International Trade be granted a travel budget of $167,989 to travel to Jakarta, Indonesia; Singapore; and Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, from June 3 to 14, 2007, in relation to its study on Canada's Trade Policy.

 

At 1:58 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
