The Standing Committee on Natural Resources met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Lee Richardson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, Catherine Bell, Hon. Roy Cullen, Claude DeBellefeuille, Richard Harris, Christian Ouellet, Christian Paradis, Lee Richardson, Todd Norman Russell, Lloyd St. Amand, Alan Tonks and Bradley R. Trost.

 

Acting Members present: Dennis Bevington for Catherine Bell.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Mining Association of Canada: Gordon Peeling, President and Chief Executive Officer. Nature Québec / UQCN: Harvey Mead, President; Marylène Dussault, Environmental Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on September 28, 2006, the Committee resumed its study of The Oil Sands.
 

Gordon Peeling and Harvey Mead made statements and, with the other witness, answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Christian Ouellet moved, — That the Committee acknowledge the analytical framework to be used by the Committee in its work be that of sustainable development, which gives equal consideration to economic development, social equity and environmental conservation.

Debate arose thereon.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 

At 5:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
