The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in a televised session at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, the Hon. Shawn Murphy, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Paule Brunelle, David Christopherson, Brian Fitzpatrick, Jean-Yves Laforest, Hon. Shawn Murphy, Pierre Poilievre, Pablo Rodriguez, David Sweet, John Williams and Borys Wrzesnewskyj.

 

Acting Members present: Gary Goodyear for Mike Lake and Hon. John McCallum for Hon. Judy Sgro.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Brian O'Neal, Analyst; Alex Smith, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Sheila Fraser, Auditor General of Canada; Nancy Cheng, Assistant Auditor General; Richard Flageole, Assistant Auditor General; Andrew Lennox, Assistant Auditor General; Lyse Ricard, Assistant Auditor General.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(g), the Committee commenced consideration of the February 2007 Report of the Auditor General of Canada.
 

Sheila Fraser made an opening statement and, with Richard Flageole and Nancy Cheng, answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Borys Wrzesnewskyj moved, — That, in order to ensure that the Public Accounts Committee is fully able to get to the bottom of the serious criminal issues surround the findings of the Auditor General in Chapter 9 of the Auditor General’s Report of November 2006 – Pension and Insurance Administration – Royal Canadian Mounted Police, I move that the following persons be asked to appears as witnesses before the Public Accounts Committee on February 19, 2007:

Staff/Sergeant Ron Lewis (Retired)

Denise Revine (Public Service Employee) - RCMP

Chief Superintendent Fraser Macaulay (RCMP)

Staff Sergeant Steve Walker (RCMP)

Staff Sergeant Mike Frizzell (RCMP)

A/Comm. David Gork.

Debate arose thereon.

 

It was agreed, — That the motion be amended by deleting the words “criminal issues surround” and replacing them with the following “issues surrounding”.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 5; NAYS: 6.

 

At 5:27 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
