The Standing Committee on National Defence met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Vice-Chair, John Cannis, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Dawn Black, Robert Bouchard, Blaine Calkins, John Cannis, Rick Casson, Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Cheryl Gallant, Laurie Hawn, Russ Hiebert and Hon. Joe McGuire.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Andy Scott for Hon. Carolyn Bennett.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Cox, Analyst. Parliament of South Africa: Ernest T. Lourens, Committee Secretary.

 

Witnesses: Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands: His Excellency Karel P. M. de Beer, Ambassador. Embassy of the Republic of Romania: Her Excellency Elena Sava Stefoi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.

 

Delegation: Parliament of South Africa: Thandi Vivian Tobias, M.P., Chairperson, Portfolio Committee on Defence; Oupa Ephraim Monareng, M.P., Portfolio Committee on Defence; Velaphi Bethuel Ndlovu, M. P. , Portfolio Committee on Defence; Somangamane Benjamin Ntuli, M.P., Portfolio Committee on Defence.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on November 1st, 2006, the Committee met with representatives of the delegation from South Africa.
 

The delegates made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:30 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:38 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

The Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on May 16, 2006, the Committee resumed its study of Canadian Forces in Afghanistan.
 

Elena Sava Stefoi made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 5:12 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:13 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Karel P. M. de Beer made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 5:47 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
