The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Rob Merrifield, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Patricia Davidson, Rick Dykstra, Steven John Fletcher, Christiane Gagnon, Susan Kadis, Luc Malo and Rob Merrifield.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. John McKay for Hon. Hedy Fry, Hon. Stephen Owen for Bonnie Brown and Chris Warkentin for Dave Batters.

 

Other Members present: Pat Martin and Paul Szabo.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier, Analyst; Sonya Norris, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Public Health Agency of Canada: Sylvie Stachenko, Deputy Chief Public Health Officer, Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention Branch; Kelly Stone, Director, Division of Childhood and Adolescence. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of a new strategy for the prevention of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.
 

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of the response of the government to the Second Report of the Standing Committee on Health, “Even One is Too Many: A Call for a Comprehensive Action Plan for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder”, presented to the House on Wednesday, January 17, 2007.

 

Sylvie Stachenko made a statement and, with Kelly Stone, Kathy Langlois and Beth Pieterson, answered questions.

 

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:39 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, May 11, 2006, the Committee resumed its study of silicone gel-filled breast implants.
 

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of the response of the government to the Third Report of the Standing Committee on Health, “Silicone Gel-filled Implants: Areas of Concern”, presented to the House on Wednesday, January 17, 2007.

 

Neil Yeates made a statement and, with Supriya Sharma, answered questions.

 

At 5:13 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
