The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:37 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Rob Merrifield, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Patricia Davidson, Nicole Demers, Ruby Dhalla, Steven John Fletcher, Tina Keeper and Rob Merrifield.

 

Acting Members present: Meili Faille for Christiane Gagnon, Art Hanger for Dave Batters, James Lunney for Rick Dykstra and Pat Martin for Penny Priddy.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier, Analyst; Sonya Norris, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Medical Association: Colin McMillan, President; William Tholl, Secretary General and Chief Executive Officer. Canadian Paediatric Society: Claire LeBlanc, Committee Chair, Healthy Active Living Committee; Marie Adèle Davis, Executive Director. Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission: Martine Vallee, Director, English Pay, Specialty and Social Policy; Denis Carmel, Director, Public Affairs. Concerned Children's Advertisers: Cathy Loblaw, President. Advertising Standards Canada: Linda J. Nagel, President and Chief Executive Officer. Media Awareness Network: Catherine Thurm, Project Manager, Education. Association of Canadian Advertisers: Robert Reaume, Vice-President, Policy and Research.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on Childhood Obesity.
 

Colin McMillan, Claire LeBlanc, Martine Vallee, Cathy Loblaw, Linda J. Nagel, Catherine Thurm and Robert Reaume made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 5:39 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
