The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in a televised session at 11:09 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Gerald Keddy, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Gérard Asselin, Raynald Blais, Hon. Gerry Byrne, Rodger Cuzner, Randy Kamp, Gerald Keddy, James Lunney, Hon. Lawrence MacAulay, Fabian Manning, Bill Matthews and Peter Stoffer.

 

Acting Members present: Bev Shipley for John Cummins.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, Principal.

 

Appearing: Hon. Loyola Hearn, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans.

 

Witnesses: Department of Fisheries and Oceans: Larry Murray, Deputy Minister; George Da Pont, Commissioner, Canadian Coast Guard; David Bevan, Assistant Deputy Minister, Fisheries and Aquaculture Management; Cal Hegge, Acting Assistant Deputy Minister, Human Resources and Corporate Services; Sue Kirby, Assistant Deputy Minister, Oceans and Habitat Sector.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of the Expenditure Plans and the Effectiveness of their implementation by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

It was agreed, — That Robert Rangeley, Vice President, Atlantic Region, World Wildlife Fund, be invited to appear before the Committee on December 7, 2006, to discuss Marine Conservation Issues on the East Coast.

 

At 1:07 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
