Meeting No. 66

Tuesday, June 19, 2007

The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 11:05 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block.

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, Bernard Bigras, Nathan Cullen, Luc Harvey, Marcel Lussier, Bob Mills, Hon. Geoff Regan, Anthony Rota, Francis Scarpaleggia, Maurice Vellacott and Mark Warawa.

Acting Members present: Hon. John Godfrey for David J. McGuinty.

In attendance: House of Commons: Christine Lafrance, Procedural Clerk . Library of Parliament: Sam Banks, Analyst ; Tim Williams, Analyst.

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (Foreign Affairs): David Mulroney, Personal Representative of the Prime Minister, 2007 G8 Summit. Simon Fraser University: Mark Jaccard, Professor, School of Resource and Environmental Management. International Institute for Sustainable Development: John Drexhage, Director, Climate Change and Energy.

The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Chair.

On motion of John Godfrey, it was agreed, — That Bob Mills be elected Chair of the Committee.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study on the G8 Summit debriefing on the climate change developments.

The Committee agreed to hear from David Mulroney from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Mark Jaccard from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m., and John Drexhage from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m..

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 1:03 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
