Meeting No. 27

Tuesday, December 5, 2006

The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 9:00 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Norman Doyle, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Johanne Deschamps, Barry Devolin, Norman Doyle, Meili Faille, Nina Grewal, Rahim Jaffer, Ed Komarnicki, Bill Siksay, Hon. Andrew Telegdi and Blair Wilson.

Acting Members present: Hon. Hedy Fry for Raymonde Folco and Lui Temelkovski for Hon. Jim Karygiannis.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jennifer Bird, Analyst ; Andrew Kitching, Analyst.

Witnesses: Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Janet Siddall, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Operations; Micheline Aucoin, Director General, Refugees Branch; Luke Morton, Senior Counsel, Legal Services.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, June 21, 2006, the Committee resumed its study of Refugee Issues.

Janet Siddall made a statement, and with Micheline Aucoin and Luke Morton, answered questions.

At 10:18 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:19 a.m., the sitting resumed.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

On motion of Blair Wilson, it was agreed, — That the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

It was agreed, — To pay the witness expenses for the Toronto Action for Social Change.

At 10:50 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
