The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in a televised session at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Norman Doyle, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Johanne Deschamps, Barry Devolin, Norman Doyle, Meili Faille, Nina Grewal, Rahim Jaffer, Ed Komarnicki, Bill Siksay, Hon. Andrew Telegdi and Blair Wilson.

 

Acting Members present: Raymonde Folco for Hon. Jim Karygiannis.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jennifer Wispinski, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Monte Solberg, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.

 

Witnesses: Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Janice Charette, Deputy Minister; Wayne Ganim, Chief Financial Officer, Director General Finance Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2006-2007: Votes 1, 5 and 10 under the Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada referred to the Committee on Tuesday, April 25, 2006.
 

Hon. Monte Solberg made a statement and, with the Janice Charette, answered questions.

 

The Chair called Vote 1 - Operating expenditures under the Department of Citizenship and Immigration.

 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That Vote 1 in the amount of $471,886,000, less the amount of $353,914,500 granted in Interim Supply, be carried.

 

The Chair called Vote 5 – Grants and contributions under the Department of Citizenship and Immigration.

 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That Vote 5 in the amount of $711,702,000, less the amount of $593,085,000 granted in Interim Supply, be carried.

 

The Chair called Vote 10 – Program expenditures under the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada.

 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That Vote 10 in the amount of $103,259,000, less the amount of $86,049,167 granted in Interim Supply, be carried. .

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair report Votes 1, 5, 10, less the amounts voted in Interim Supply, under CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION CANADA to the House.

 

At 5:25 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
