The Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Chair, Rob Anders, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Rob Anders, Rodger Cuzner, Roger Gaudet, Betty Hinton, Colin Mayes, Gilles-A. Perron, Anthony Rota, Bev Shipley, Brent St. Denis, Peter Stoffer, David Sweet and Roger Valley.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michel Rossignol, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Betty Hinton, it was agreed, — That the Chair write a letter on behalf of the committee to express it's condolences to the families of the lost soldiers in the riding of Algoma—Manitoulin—Kapuskasing and that the committee appreciate, very much, the sacrifice that they have made.

 

Bev Shipley moved, — That the committee travel to the St. Anne de Bellevue hospital facility in Montreal as well as the Ottawa Perley-Rideau center in order to gain better understanding of the service and care provided to Canadian Veterans.

Debate arose thereon.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 

On motion of Peter Stoffer, it was agreed, — That the Chair write a letter on behalf of the committee to Mary Ann Burdett, the past president of the Royal Canadian Legion, to thank her for her work and her advice to us, to welcome the new president and congratulate him on his new position and invite him to appear before the committee to ask how we can move forward together.

 

At 4:18 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
