The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met in camera at 9:06 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Colin Mayes, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Steven Blaney, Rod Bruinooge, Jean Crowder, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Marc Lemay, Yvon Lévesque, Colin Mayes, Gary Merasty and Hon. Anita Neville.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Analyst; Tonina Simeone, Analyst; Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That Chief Ghislain Picard, Assembly of First Nations, Quebec, be invited to appear on November 21, 2006 on Bill C-292.

 

It was agreed, — That the Government of British Columbia be invited to send either the current or the past Aboriginal Affairs Minister to appear on Bill C-292 on November 9, 2006.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee not meet on November 30, 2006.

 

At 9:26 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:42 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

The Chair presented the Third Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which read as follows:

Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure of the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development has the honour to present its THIRD REPORT:

Your Subcommittee met on Thursday, November 2, 2006, to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:

1. That four meetings be set aside for consideration of Bill C-292, to be divided as follows: on November 9: The Right Honourable Paul Martin, Honourable Ralph Goodale, Honourable Andy Scott and Honourable Gordon Campbell, Premier of British Columbia; on November 21: Assembly of First Nations, Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, Métis National Council; on November 23: National Association of Friendship Centres, Congress of Aboriginal Peoples, Native Women's Association of Canada; on November 28: Clause by Clause consideration.

2. That the Committee consider the Supplementary Estimates 2006-2007 before December 5, 2006.

It was agreed, — That the Third Report of the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be adopted.

 

The Committee proceeded to discuss its draft report on Post-Secondary Education

 

It was agreed, — That the next substantive study of the Committee be on housing, on and off reserve and in the North.

 

At 10:52 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
