The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 9:08 a.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Colin Mayes, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Steven Blaney, Rod Bruinooge, Jean Crowder, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Marc Lemay, Yvon Lévesque, Colin Mayes, Gary Merasty and Hon. Anita Neville.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett for Todd Norman Russell and Bruce Stanton for Inky Mark.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Analyst; Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Prince Albert Grand Council: Keith Frame, Research Coordinator.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on Post-Secondary Education.
 

The witness made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 10:00 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:01 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the calendar of events presented to the Committee be agreed to.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hear from representatives of the Maritime region on Post-Secondary Education on October 26, 2006.

 

Anita Neville moved, — That the Standing Committee of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development adopt the resolution that the Conservative Government should immediately pledge their support for the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples; that this be adopted as a report of this committee; that the chair present the report to the House.

Debate arose thereon.

 

At 11:03 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
