The Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs of the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met in camera at 11:05 a.m. this day, in Room 536 Wellington Building, the Chair, Anthony Rota, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Hon. Larry Bagnell, Betty Hinton, Gordon O'Connor, Gilles-A. Perron, Anthony Rota and Peter Stoffer.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michel Rossignol, Analyst.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 
It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee will meet on Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m to 5:30 p.m.
 
It was agreed, — That the Minister appear before the Subcommittee on February 23, 2005 rather than February 21, 2005.
 
It was agreed,— That Mr. Pierre Allard, Director, Service Bureau Dominion Command, The Royal Canadian Legion be invited to appear before the Subcommittee at a future date.
 
It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee undertake a study of the Veterans Review and Appeal Board.
 
It was agreed, — That the Chair of the Subcommittee write to the Chair of the Defence Committee requesting authority to do a study on the Canadian Forces Superannuation Act and other elements of the pensions and benefits package.
 
It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee undertake a study on the Canadian Forces Superannuation Act and other elements of the pensions and benefits package.
 
It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee undertake a study on whether Veterans require an independent Ombudsman and associated issues related to Gulf War Veterans.
 
It was agreed, — That the Chair write to various Veterans' organizations asking their position on the necessity of an independent Ombudsman for Veterans.
 
It was agreed, — That Mr. Victor Marchand, Chair of the Veterans Review and Appeal Board Canada, be invited to appear before the Subcommittee on Wednesday, February 9, 2005, in relation to its study on the Veterans Review and Appeal Board.
 
It was agreed, — That the Clerk be instructed, in consultation with the Chair, to prepare a draft budget for the Subcommittee's proposed study on the Veterans Review and Appeal Board.
 

At 11:44 a.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
