The Subcommittee on Public Safety and National Security of the Standing Committee on Justice, Human Rights, Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness met by videoconference at 9:07 a.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Paul Zed, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Joe Comartin, Hon. Roy Cullen, Peter MacKay, Serge Ménard, Kevin Sorenson, Tom Wappel and Paul Zed.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Principal.

 

Witnesses: As Individuals: Hon. Lord Carlile of Berriew; Clive Walker, Professor, University of Leeds, School of Law.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of November 22, 2004, the Subcommittee resumed its study of the Anti-terrorism Act.
 

Clive Walker made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 10:10 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:15 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Lord Carlile of Berriew made a statement and answered questions.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

It was agreed that Ms. Maureen Basnicki be invited to appear as part of the review of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

 

It was agreed that the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada as well as the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness be invited to appear as part of the review of the Anti-terrorism Act.

 

At 11:02 a.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
