The Subcommittee on Public Safety and National Security of the Standing Committee on Justice, Human Rights, Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness met in a televised session at 9:07 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Paul Zed, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Joe Comartin, Peter MacKay, Serge Ménard, Kevin Sorenson and Paul Zed.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Don Boudria for Tom Wappel and John Maloney for Roy Cullen .

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Justice for Mohamed Harkat Committee: Christian Legeais, Campaign Manager. Campaign to Stop Secret Trials in Canada: Matthew Behrens. Canadian Council for Refugees: Janet Dench, Executive Director. Amnesty International Canada: Alex Neve, Secretary General, English Speaking Section. As an Individual: Paul D. Copeland. International Civil Liberties Monitoring Group: Hon. Warren Allmand, Member of steering committee.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of November 22, 2004, the Subcommittee resumed its study of the Anti-terrorism Act, Impact of Security Certificates in a Post-Antiterrorism Act World.
 

Christian Legeais, Matthew Behrens and Janet Dench made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:41 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:50 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Alex Neve, Paul D. Copeland and Hon. Warren Allmand made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:29 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
