The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met at 10:04 a.m. this day, in Room 208, West Block, the Chair, John Cannis, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Hon. Larry Bagnell, Hon. Bill Blaikie, John Cannis, Rick Casson, Wajid Khan, Dave MacKenzie, Hon. Keith Martin, Gordon O'Connor, Gilles-A. Perron and Anthony Rota.

 

Acting Members present: Cheryl Gallant for Betty Hinton.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michel Rossignol, Analyst. As an Individual: Joseph P. Culligan, Consultant.

 

Witnesses: CARE Canada: A. John Watson, President and Chief Executive Officer. Canadian Council for International Cooperation: Gerry Barr, President and Chief Executive Officer. Canadian Red Cross: Tetsuo Itani, Manager, Emergency Response Unit.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Rick Casson moved, — That the Committee schedule a meeting for the week of November 14 to examine and discuss the ongoing investigation into the use of Agent Orange and other defoliants on Canadian Forces bases.

Debate arose thereon.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 2.

 

At 10:46 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:55 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on February 24, 2005, the Committee resumed its review of defence policy.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:48 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
