The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C Centre Block, the Chair, Bonnie Brown, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Bill Blaikie, Bonnie Brown, Colin Carrie, Nicole Demers, Ruby Dhalla, Steven John Fletcher, James Lunney, Réal Ménard, Rob Merrifield, Michael John Savage and Hon. Robert Thibault.

 

Associate Members present: Gary Goodyear.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sonya Norris, Analyst; Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst; Nancy Miller Chenier, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: B.C. Provincial Government: Brian Emerson, Acting Executive Director, Healthy Living / Chronic Disease Prevention, Population Health and Wellness, Ministry of Health Services. Public Health Agency of Canada: Frank Plummer, Director General, Centre for Infectious Disease Prevention and Control. Canadian Nurses Association: Janet Davies, Director , Public Policy; Jane MacDonald, Primary Health Care Consultant. Canadian Medical Association: Albert Schumacher, President; Isra Levy, Chief Medical Officer and Director, Office for Public Health.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, October 26, 2004, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-12, An Act to prevent the introduction and spread of communicable diseases.
 

Brian Emerson, Frank Plummer, Janet Davies and Albert Schumacher made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 5:34 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
