The Standing Committee on Finance met at 9:35 a.m. this day, in Room 308 West Block, the Chair, Massimo Pacetti, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Don H. Bell, Yvan Loubier, John McKay, Maria Minna, Massimo Pacetti and Charlie Penson.

Acting Members present: Richard Harris for Monte Solberg, Jack Layton for Judy Wasylycia-Leis and Caroline St-Hilaire for Guy Côté.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Principal ; Alexandre Laurin, Analyst.

Witnesses: Air Transport Association of Canada: Warren Everson, Vice-President, Policy and Strategic Planning. Chamber of Maritime Commerce: Raymond W. Johnston, President. Railway Association of Canada: Chris Jones, Director, Government Relations. Federation of Canadian Municipalities: James Knight, Chief Executive Officer. Canadian Trucking Alliance: Stephen Laskowski, Associate Vice President. Shipping Federation of Canada: Anne Legars, Director, Policy and Government Affairs. Canadian Trucking Alliance: Ron Lennox, Vice-President, Regulatory Affairs. Federation of Canadian Municipalities: Ann MacLean, President & Mayor of New Glasgow, N.S.. Railway Association of Canada: Sab Meffe, Assistant Vice-President. Canadian Shipowners Association: Don Morrison, President. Pursuant to Standing Order 83.1, the Committee resumed its pre-budget consultations 2004.

PANEL 2: URBAN COMMUNITIES

Ann MacLean and Jeff Morrisson, made statements and with James Knight, answered questions.

At 11:02 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:04 a.m., the sitting resumed.

PANEL 3: TRANSPORTATION

Raymond Johnston, Michael Roschlau, Anne Legars, Chris Jones, Sab Meffe, Stephen Laskowski, Don Morrison and Warren Everson made statements and with Robert Olivier and Ron Lennox, answered questions.

At 12:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
