The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D Centre Block, the Chair, Massimo Pacetti, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Rona Ambrose, Don H. Bell, Guy Côté, Charles Hubbard, Yvan Loubier, John McKay, Massimo Pacetti, Brian Pallister, Monte Solberg and Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Principal ; Alexandre Laurin, Analyst.

Witnesses: Association of Canadian Community Colleges: Gerry Brown, President. Canadian Association for Graduate Studies: Jean-Pierre Gaboury, Executive Director. Canadian School Boards Association: Gerri Gershon, Vice-President; Michael Clarke, Superintendent of Business, Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. Canadian Association for Graduate Studies: John Lennox, Dean of Graduate Studies , York University. Canadian Association of University Teachers: David Robinson, Associate Executive Director. Canadian Federation of Students: George Soule, National Chairperson. Canadian Federation of Students - National Office: Michael Conlon, National Chairperson, National Graduate Council. Canadian Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators: Judy Stymest, Past President, CASFAA. Canadian Association of University Teachers: James Turk, Executive Director. Quebec Federation of University Students: Guillaume Lavoie, Vice-President, International and Federal Affairs.

Pursuant to Standing Order 83.1, the Committee resumed its pre-budget consultations 2004.

PANEL 23: EDUCATION

Gerry Brown, David Robinson, Judy Stymest, George Soule, James Kusie, John Lennox, Gerri Gershon, Michael Clarke and Guillaume Lavoie made statements and answered questions.

At 5:09 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
