The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:04 a.m. this day, in the Studio-Théâtre Alfred-Laliberté, Université du Québec à Montréal, Montreal, Quebec, the Chair, Bernard Patry, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Bernard Patry, Beth Phinney and Kevin Sorenson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Lee, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Université de Sherbrooke: Sami Aoun, Professor of Political Science. Groupe de recherche sur les activités minières en Afrique: Bonnie Campbell, Director. Canadian Human Rights Foundation: Ian Hamilton, Executive Director. Université du Québec à Montréal: Pierre Pahlavi, Researcher, Institut d'études internationales de Montréal, Canada Research Chair in Canadian Foreign and Defence Policy. Africa Canada Forum: Lina Holguin, Co-President; Denis Tougas, Coordinator, Table de concertation sur la région des Grands lacs africains.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on June 7, 2004, the Committee resumed its study of the International Policy Statement.
 

Lina Holguin and Denis Tougas made statements and answered questions.
