Address in Reply to the Speech from the Throne

The House resumed consideration of the motion of Mr. Jobin (Lévis-et-Chutes-de-la-Chaudière) , seconded by Mrs. Redman (Kitchener Centre) , — That the following Address be presented to Her Excellency the Governor General:

To Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Chancellor and Principal Companion of the Order of Canada, Chancellor and Commander of the Order of Military Merit, Chancellor and Commander of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada.

MAY IT PLEASE YOUR EXCELLENCY:

We, Her Majesty's most loyal and dutiful subjects, the House of Commons of Canada, in Parliament assembled, beg leave to offer our humble thanks to Your Excellency for the gracious Speech which Your Excellency has addressed to both Houses of Parliament.

“and this House regrets that the Speech from the Throne is an advance copy of the Liberal Election Platform, filled with empty rhetoric and promises, that does nothing to address the very real problems facing Canadians.”.

Mr. Duceppe (Laurier—Sainte-Marie) , seconded by Ms. Picard (Drummond) , moved the following subamendment, — That the amendment be amended by adding after the word “Canadians” the following:

“and that this House notes that the Speech from the Throne denies the existence of a Quebec nation and Quebec values and reiterates the federal government’s desire to intensify its intrusions into areas of jurisdiction exclusive to Quebec and the provinces.”.
