The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills Development, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in a televised session at 9:07 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D Centre Block, the Chair, Judi Longfield, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Eleni Bakopanos, Eugène Bellemare, Jeannot Castonguay, Judi Longfield, Gary Lunn and Carol Skelton.

 

Acting Members present: Sue Barnes for Tony Ianno, Paul Crête for Suzanne Tremblay, Yvon Godin for Libby Davies, Carmen Provenzano for Yolande Thibeault and Bob Wood for John Finlay.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Chantal Collin, Analyst; Kevin Kerr, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Confédération des syndicats nationaux: France Bibeau, Research Consultant. Canadian Labour Congress: Barb Byers, Executive Vice-President. Confédération des syndicats nationaux: Claudette Carbonneau, President. Canadian Labour Congress: Kevin Hayes, Senior Economist. Centrale des syndicats démocratiques: Normand Pépin, Responsable for the Research Branch. Canadian Union of Public Employees: Blair Redlin, Director, Research Branch. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its Update and Review of Issues Addressed in the Committee's Report entitled: Beyond Bill C-2: A Review of Other Proposals to Reform Employment Insurance.
 

On motion of Gary Lunn, it was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $ 19,500, be adopted.

 

Barb Byers, Blair Redlin, Claudette Carbaonneau, François Vaudreuil and René Roy made opening statements and with the other witnesses answered questions.

 

At 11:00 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
