The Subcommittee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:38 p.m. this day, in Room 701 La Promenade Building, the Chair, Carolyn Bennett, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Carolyn Bennett, Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral, Reed Elley, Nancy Karetak-Lindell and Wendy Lill.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: William Young, Acting Director. House of Commons: Elizabeth B. Kingston, Committee Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Council of Canadians with Disabilities: Steve Estey, Chair; David Shannon, Member. Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Susan Gregson, Director, Human Rights; Rebecca Netley, Legal Officer. Department of Human Resources Development: Pauline Myre, Director, Policy and Research. Inclusion International: Diane Richler, President. Department of Justice: Laurie Sargent, Legal Counsel. As Individual: Joan Westland; Lee Ann Basser, Adjunct Professor, University of York; Senior Lecturer, La Trobe University, Melbourne.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(d), the Committee resumed its study of the matters relating to the proposing, promoting, monitoring and assessing of initiatives aimed at the integration and equality of disabled persons in all sectors of Canadian society -- Round table on issues concerning international activities in the area of disability, (See Minutes of Proceedings of Tuesday, October 28, 2003, Meeting no. 17).
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:00 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
