Meeting No. 12

Monday, May 26, 2003

The Subcommittee on Electoral Boundaries Readjustment of the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs met at 3:37 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Paddy Torsney, presiding.

Members of the Subcommittee present:  Rick Borotsik, Yvon Godin, Michel Guimond, Marcel Proulx, Scott Reid and Paddy Torsney.

In attendance:  From the Library of Parliament:  John Wright, Research Officer.  From the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada:  André Cyr, Project Manager, Electoral Geography Division, Register and Geography Directorate.

Witnesses:  From the House of Commons:  Bob Wood, Nipissing; Stan Keyes, Hamilton West; Julian Reed, Halton; Judi Longfield, Whitby--Ajax; Ovid Jackson, Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound; Benoît Serré, Timiskaming--Cochrane.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs on Thursday, November 7, 2002, the Subcommittee resumed consideration of the matter of the objections to the report of the electoral boundaries commission for Ontario.

Bob Wood made a statement and answered questions.

Stan Keyes made a statement and answered questions.

Julian Reed made a statement and answered questions.

At 4:29 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:30 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Judi Longfield made a statement and answered questions.

Ovid Jackson made a statement and answered questions.

Benoît Serré made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:48 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:49 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs on Thursday, November 7, 2002, the Subcommittee resumed consideration of the matter of the objections to the report of the electoral boundaries commission for Alberta.

The Subcommittee resumed consideration of a draft report concerning the objections to the Commission’s report for Alberta.

It was agreed, - That the draft report be the report of the Subcommittee and that the Chair do present the report to the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs.

At 5:57 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
