Monday, March 17, 2003

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in a televised session at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Odina Desrochers, Mac Harb, Gerald Keddy, Steve Mahoney, Philip Mayfield, Val Meredith, Shawn Murphy, Beth Phinney, Tony Tirabassi, Judy Wasylycia-Leis and John Williams.

Acting Members present: Bon Speller for John Finlay; Garry Breithreuz for Paul Forseth; Alan Tonks for Massimo Pacetti.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O'Neal and Jean Dupuis, Analysts.

Appearing: The Honourable Lucienne Robillard, President, Treasury Board.

Witnesses: From the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat: Jim Judd, Secretary of the Treasury Board and Comptroller General of Canada; Richard Neville, Deputy Comptroller General, Comptrollership Branch. From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Sheila Fraser, Auditor General of Canada; Alan Gilmore, Principal, Gordon Stock, Director.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee resumed consideration of Chapter 10 (Department of Justice - Costs of Implementing the Canadian Firearms Program) of the December 2002 Report of the Auditor General of Canada. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Monday, February 24, 2003, Meeting No. 16)

Sheila Fraser and the Hon. Lucienne Robillard made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 4:06 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:14 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Questionning of the Minister and the witnesses resumed.

At 5:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
