Meeting No. 1
Thursday, November 21, 2002
The Standing Committee on Official Languages met at 10:05 a.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, for the purpose of electing a Chair and Vice-Chairs, pursuant to Standing Order 106.
Members of the Committee present: Mauril Bélanger, Eugène Bellemare, Jeannot Castonguay, Yvon Godin, Jason Kenney, Scott Reid, Benoît Sauvageau, Raymond Simard and Yolande Thibeault.
Acting Members present: Sarkis Assadourian for Gérard Binet, Reg Alcock for Sarmite Bulte and The Hon. Hedy Fry for Massimo Pacetti.
Pursuant to Standing Order 106: Election of a Chair and Vice-Chairs.
The Clerk presided over the election of the Chair.
Jeannot Castonguay moved, - That Mauril Bélanger be elected as Chair of the Committee.
The question being put on the motion, it was agreed to.
The Clerk presided over the election of the Vice-Chairs.
Scott Reid moved, - That Yvon Godin be elected as Opposition Vice-Chair of the Committee.
The question being put on the motion, it was agreed to.
Raymond Simard moved, - That Yolande Thibeault be elected as Government Vice-Chair of the Committee.
The question being put on the motion, it was agreed to.
Mauril Bélanger took the Chair.
The Committee commenced consideration of matters related to committee business.
At 10:25 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
