The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 9:00 a.m. this day, in Edmonton at The Fairmont Hotel MacDonald in the Empire Ballroom, the Chair, Hon. Andy Scott, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Chuck Cadman, Hon. Hedy Fry, Paul Harold Macklin, Richard Marceau, John McKay, Hon. Andy Scott, Vic Toews.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, senior analyst.

Witnesses: From the Alberta Federation of Women United for Families: Corry Morcos, Vice-president; Artrude Doell, Member. As Individual: Linda Folkman; Tim Folkman; Sheree Drummond; Don Sheppard. From the Canadian Union of Public Employees: Joey Sayer. As Individual: Dr. Lise Gotell, Associate Professor, Women's Studies Program, University of Alberta; Ted Morton, Professor, University of Calgary and Alberta Senator Elect. From the Alberta Council for Global Cooperation: Cherie Klassen, Executive Director. As Individual: Chris Martyniuk; Beverley Smith; Rev. R. Wayne Lee; Craig Stumpf-Allen; Mark Stumpf-Allen. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on marriage and the legal recognition of same-sex unions.

At 9:00 a.m., Corry Morcos, Artrude Doell, Linda Folkman, Tim Folkman and Sheree Drummond made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:00 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:03 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Don Sheppard, Joey Sayer and Lise Gotell made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:57 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:04 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Ted Morton, Cherie Klassen and Chris Martyniuk made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:58 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:00 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Beverley Smith, Rev. R. Wayne Lee, Craig Stumpf-Allen and Mark Stumpf-Allen made a statement and answered questions.

At 1:50 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 2:00 p.m., the sitting resumed.
